Spanish Mustangs are living pieces of American History,
descending from horses brought to North America over 500 years ago by the
Spanish Conquistadors. Spanish Horses spread across the Plains, changing the
lives of Indians & playing an important role furnishing mounts for trappers,
cowboys, Pony Express Riders, homesteaders, all those who settled the West.
The Spanish Mustang Registry was started in 1957, long before the advent of the BLM Adopt A Horse Program. We were introduced to Spanish Mustangs the summer of 1993 during our first trip to the Brislawn's Cayuse Ranch near Oshoto Wyoming. That summer we bought our first Spanish Mustangs, Ghost Warrior, Sequoyah's Creek Shawnee, and Chickasaw Magic. We lost Ghost in 2004, Shawnee and Magic are still with us, raising colts. Horses of sensible size, 14 to 15 hands tall with sound feet & legs and willing disposition are the goal of our breeding program. Spanish Mustangs are unique in their coats of many colors. We work to preserve the "Painted Ponies", including the rare Medicine Hat Pattern. |
